What started as merely a frustrated tweet from a world-renowned Chicago chef on Saturday has since grown into the basis for a national debate on whether babies should be banned from upscale restaurants.
On Saturday night, Alinea chef Grant Achatz tweeted that guests at his pricey three-star restaurant, which ranks among the nation's most revered dining destinations, brought an 8-month-old baby along to dinner.
The baby, as babies tend to do, proceeded to cry, throwing a fit Achatz told Good Morning America he could hear from the kitchen. Though he refrained from kicking out the diners and their noisy child, it appears he is contemplating a change of policy when it comes to tiny tasters going forward.
"We want people to come in and enjoy and experience Alinea for what it is, but we also have to be cognizant of the other 80 people that came in to experience Alinea that night," he told the ABC morning program, also noting he thinks it is good for children to experience fine dining at a young age.
The story prompted a Twitter debate, an @AlineaBaby parody account and ran on NBC's "Today" as well.
For what it's worth, in a very unscientific poll of HuffPost readers on our previous story, 49 percent of poll respondents agreed that fine dining restaurants like Alinea should ban babies.
