The time has come: Lena Dunham has landed her Vogue cover.
The much-anticipated cover photo was released by Vogue on Wednesday morning, highlighting the "Girls" creator wearing a Burberry shirt in a gorgeous close-up shot. Snapped by photographer Annie Leibovitz, the image is soft and flattering but also as quirky as Dunham herself -- no typical bedroom eyes or smoldering scowls here.
The February cover has been predicted for months, since rumors buzzed last October that Anna Wintour hosted a dinner for Dunham to "seduce Lena into bringing her next generation audience into the Vogue brand." That reported dinner was followed by Lena's appearance at a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund event with Wintour in Los Angeles and a Wintour red carpet appearance at the season three premiere of "Girls." So yeah, you could say we all say this one coming.
Major cover milestone aside, it's actually not Dunham's first time in Vogue. Back in 2012, Vogue interviewed the fresh-faced foursome about their new show right as it hit the big time. Plus, as Vogue writes in this new feature, Dunham actually posed for the mag in a 1998 photo that never actually ran.
But scoring a cover is a huge moment for Dunham, as both a relatively edgy young star (the "Girls" demographic isn't quite identical to Vogue's, obviously) and a woman whose very normal body shape is a refreshing departure from the skinny magazine standard.
