Neymar suffered an ankle injury on Thursday that forced him out of Barcelona's Copa del Rey match against Getafe during the first half. The 21-year-old Brazilian striker was injured when he went to the ground awkwardly while attempting to elude a defender. As he planted his right leg to set up for a left-footed shot or cross, his right ankle appeared to buckle.
Upon falling to the grass at Alfonso Perez, Neymar writhed in pain until trainers reached him. He was eventually helped off the field after being down for several minutes. Before the match was even complete, the team announced that Neymar had suffered a sprained tendon in his right ankle and would to undergo further testing on Friday.
With the severity of the injury still unclear, former Brazilian national team stalwart Cafu tweeted his wishes for a speedy recovery.
Hoping Neymar has a quick recovery. #Barcelona
