"Foods act synergistically with your body," explained Ellie. This means that certain foods, when paired together, actually aid each other in nutrient absorption in the human body. "If you eat red meat with something like spinach, for example, you’ll absorb the iron in spinach better simply because you’re eating them together," she told us.
Ellie also advocates eating healthy fats. "You really need to eat some fats in order to absorb nutrients," she explained. Extra virgin olive oil seems to work best in its abilities to help the body absorb fat-soluble nutrients.
