A disappointing NFC Championship loss turned ugly Sunday night when a California man allegedly shot two friends for calling him a "new" 49ers fan following the game.
According to the Fresno Bee, Amado Vargas, 39, was at a Fresno, Calif. home where 15 people, including teenagers and a pregnant woman, had gathered to watch the game. After the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Seattle Seahawks, two men allegedly taunted Vargas, calling him a "new" fan.
The argument escalated and Vargas reportedly threatened the men with a knife, which was wrestled away from him. From there, Vargas allegedly ran into a bedroom and retrieved a handgun, shooting two men in the legs and fleeing the scene with family members. The two males victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries at a nearby hospital.
"Alcohol was obviously related, and they started giving him a hard time after the loss of the 49ers," said Sgt. Kevin Lolkus with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office to ABC. "He took it personal, grabbed a knife, which then escalated to him grabbing a gun and firing rounds within the residence."
Vargas was later arrested at a hospital where he was being treated for stab wounds. According to ABC, he was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
