Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) is jumping into the race for Louisiana governor, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Vitter sent an email to supporters, launched a campaign website and released a web video to announce his plans.

"I believe that as our next governor, I can have a bigger impact addressing the unique challenges and opportunities we face in Louisiana," Vitter said in the video.

The victor will succeed Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), who is term-limited and will not run for reelection in 2015.
