Andrew Forrest: 'The Issue With Slavery Is That It Is Everywhere'

'The Issue With Slavery Is That It Is Everywhere'

Andrew Forrest, chairman and founder of Fortescue Metals Group, sat down with HuffPost Live at the Davos Annual Meeting on Wednesday to discuss the Walk Free Foundation, his organization that's fighting to end modern slavery.

"The issue with slavery is that it is everywhere," Forrest said.

"It's enough to break anyone's heart," Forrest continued.

Forrest said he was confident he could approach any world leader at Davos and know they had encountered the issue of slavery. He said when asked if slavery is in their countries, "if they don't answer yes, they're totally misinformed."

"You cannot afford a world with slavery which literally takes someone and turns them into a machine," Forrest said.

Forrest also touched on politics during his interview with HuffPost Live.

"There's so many politicians who have given politics a pretty poor name... their actions have been demonstrated to be part of their over-enthusiasm to get reelected," Forrest said. "But when the dust settles, that pandering might have gotten them into power but did nothing for the larger community."

Forrest said the public should look at these politicians and think, "you should be expected to really lead us." His advice to people looking to seek higher office is to "go out and bloody your toe in business or other things" and get the "wisdom of life" before attempting to be a leader.

Forrest did have praise for former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, calling them "really sincere."
