Muhammad Yunus At WEF: Capitalism Involves Both Selfishness And Selflessness

How Humans Can Be Selfish And SelfLess At The Same Time

Can capitalism encompass both doing well and doing good? Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus believes it can.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week, Yunus spoke with HuffPost Live about a different way of approaching business.

“I’m a selfish person,” he said. “I run a business to make money. At the same time, I’m a selfless person. I run a business to change the world. I can do both. That new interpretation will change everything.”

But Yunus doesn’t just talk about changing the world through business. His entire life has been dedicated to this very endeavor.

The social entrepreneur founded the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh in 1983 and became a pioneer of microloans, lending small amounts to help would-be entrepreneurs lift themselves out of poverty.

The strategy has become so successful that his work has been used as a model throughout the world.
