Maybe Quentin Tarantino's next new film will be a Hollywood satire about a script leak. In an interview with Deadline.com, Tarantino revealed that he was scrapping his latest screenplay, a Western called "The Hateful Eight," after copies of the project leaked online this week.
"I'm very, very depressed," Tarantino told Deadline.com's Mike Fleming in an interview on Tuesday. "I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn't mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it's gotten out today."
According to Tarantino, three of the six people were actors: Bruce Dern, Tim Roth and Michael Madsen. The "Hateful Eight" script that wound up online apparently originated from one of their camps, with Tarantino telling Deadline.com that it came from Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Per the trade site, it's Dern -- who, at 77, is a Best Actor nominee this year for "Nebraska" -- who is represented by the company. (Representatives for CAA told Deadline.com that the agency had no part in the leak.)
Tarantino plans to write another script soon ("I've got 10 more where that came from"), and also set up plans to publish "The Hateful Eight" as a novel. According to TheWrap, Tarantino might be working on a prison movie inspired, in part, by the Robert Blake case. Whatever the next script is about, however, expect to see Dern in a major role. Despite the script leak, Tarantino told Deadline.com that he'll work with the veteran actor again on the new new project. (The pair previously collaborated, if ever briefly, on "Django Unchained.")
"I had a wonderful conversation with Quentin [Tarantino] about three or four weeks ago, and that was a very productive conversation and hopefully something like that comes along," Dern told HuffPost Live in an interview last week, before Tarantino axed "The Hateful Eight." "It appears to be on its way and that's good."
