IMAX CEO Makes Big Prediction About The Future Of Movies

Richard Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, predicted big changes in the movie industry while talking with HuffPost Live at Davos on Friday.

Gelfond said the appeal of movies is not just domestic -- it's global. He predicted the industry is going to have to change the dynamic of films to appeal to audiences outside the United States.

"I think there's going to be much less kind of Western power in the movies," Gelfond said. "I don't think the Russia's going to be the bad guy, and the U.S. is going to be the good guy, because that's not gonna play well [in Russia]."

Gelfond said "Hollywood's going to have to have a new sensibility on how to make movies" for a global audience. He said IMAX has had success working globally with countries like China because the company built relationships with people there.

"We also show Chinese films in IMAX in China," Gelfond said. "We're committed to consumers... we're committed to our partners there, and we're committed to the country in the long-term."
