A Kansas teen has been charged with the murder of her former boss after authorities located her in the Florida Everglades on Saturday.
Sarah Brooke Gonzales McLinn, 19, went missing earlier this month. Police found the body of 52-year-old Harold Sasko when they investigated his home after the girl disappeared. McLinn, who worked at one of five CiCi's pizza stores that Sasko managed in the area, had been living with her boss, police told KCTV.
“We were able to look in one of the windows and we saw what appeared to be a person lying on the floor,” Lawrence Police spokesman Trent McKinley told Fox 4 Kansas City.
In a news conference Monday, police said they were still investigating the nature of the relationship between the victim and the teenage murder suspect.
Glenn Sasko, the victim's brother, told KSHB that his brother was helping McLinn through some tough times.
“To me, I think he saw it as a project to fix, to help to make better,” Sasko told the station.
Sasko had been subdued and killed with "an edged instrument," and authorities believe that the alleged murder had been premeditated. If so, McLinn could face the death penalty if convicted of murder.
According to court documents, police believe McLinn "gained control over Mr. Sasko and then killed him."
Police said they waited to find McLinn before naming her a suspect in her boss' murder. McLinn was discovered living in Sasko's car by park rangers in the Florida Everglades on Saturday.
Drugs were also reportedly found in the vehicle, according to KCTV, but Dade County authorities dropped related charges once the first-degree murder was filed.
Prosecutors in Lawrence announced the charges against the teen on Monday after being notified of her discovery by Florida authorities over the weekend.
McLinn is currently in custody in Florida awaiting extradition to Kansas.
