Turkish Prime Minister Gives Speech As Giant Hologram (VIDEO)

WATCH: Turkish Prime Minister Gives Speech As Giant Hologram

Forget video conferencing -- when Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan couldn't make it to a recent party meeting, he addressed the crowd by projecting a 10-foot-tall hologram of himself into the sky.

A green-tinged image of the prime minister flickered into view above the meeting in Izmir on Jan. 26, the Hurriyet Daily News reported. Erdogan proceeded to give local mayoral candidates a pep talk amid allegations of corruption in the municipality, according to the newspaper. (Erdogan is also facing accusations of graft).

This isn't the first time a politician has appeared as a hologram. In 2012, Indian politician Narendra Modi simultaneously broadcast a speech via hologram in 53 different locations in 26 cities across Gujarat, according to the Indian Express.

While holograms have been used to conjure up Nate Dogg and Tupac for posthumous performances at Coachella, so far they haven't entered the political sphere in the U.S. -- unless you count that time a hologram of will.i.am was beamed into the CNN studio to provide commentary on the 2008 presidential election.
