Group Protests Joe Arpaio With Chickens: 'Stay Put And Shut Up'

Group Protests Joe Arpaio... With Chickens

A group of protestors brought chickens to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office this week in an attempt to discourage the controversial official from running for governor of Arizona.

Citizens for a Better Arizona, a group that's targeted Arpaio before, took chickens along with a man in a striped prison suit labeled “Arpaio” and a woman with a “Monitor Warshaw” sign to the sheriff's office on Wednesday, the Arizona Republic reports.

ABC15 reports the group now wants Arpaio to finish his term as sheriff instead of running for governor.

"We're here as citizens telling him to stay in his position, basically be quiet and serve your sentence you have left," said Citizens for a Better Arizona President Randy Parraz.

"He's the only Republican in the state who has the name identity and the money and can win the Governor [race] like that and he refuses to do it so we want him to stay put and listen to our demands today," Parraz said.

Earlier this month, Arpaio said he is considering a run for governor.

"Every four years, my supporters encourage me to run for governor," Arpaio said. "Based on these fundraising numbers and knowing I could be competitive, I will have to give it serious consideration."
