Retiring Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has a message for Hillary Clinton: if she's planning on running for president in 2016, she should make it to his state soon.
In an interview with the Quad-City Times published late Friday, Harkin praised Clinton, saying "she would bring a lot of experience and knowledge that we haven't had in that White House for a long long time."
"If she's going to run, she should start getting out here," Harkin added.
Harkin's words arrive about a week after top Iowa Democrats gathered in Des Moines to rally support should Clinton decide to run. Recently released numbers show that Ready For Hillary, the super PAC formed to promote her potential 2016 presidential bid, raised $2.7 million in the second half of 2013. That was more than twice the amount raised in the first half of 2013.
In addition to encouraging Clinton to come to Iowa, Harkin also spoke highly of Vice President Joe Biden, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). HuffPost Pollster's latest compilation of 28 publicly available polls shows Clinton holding a commanding lead among the early list of 2016 Democratic possibilities.
