Sandra Fluke Takes Step Toward Congressional Bid In California

Posted: Updated:

Women's rights activist Sandra Fluke is seeking the endorsement of the California Democratic Party, the Washington Post reports.

According to the California Democratic Party's website, Fluke is looking to enter the race to replace retiring Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.).

Fluke told The Huffington Post in January she was "strongly considering" a run for Congress.

"I’m flattered that I’m being discussed as a potential candidate, especially for Rep. Waxman's seat, considering his incredible legacy," Fluke told HuffPost on Jan. 30. "A number of folks I respect very deeply have reached out today and encouraged me to run. I am strongly considering running. I’ll be making my decision soon."

At the end of January, Waxman announced he would retire at the end of the year, detailing his reasons for leaving in a Washington Post op-ed.

The headline of this post has been updated to reflect Fluke is exploring a bid for Congress, but has yet to officially file.
