Candlelight Vigil Held In New York For Philip Seymour Hoffman

About 200 mourners gathered in New York City Wednesday night (Feb. 5) to hold a candlelight vigil for the late, great actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.

They stood in the cold outside the LAByrinth Theatre Company on Bank Street, where Hoffman was a member. Meanwhile in midtown, the marquee lights on Broadway were dimmed for a minute at 7:45 p.m.

"We come together tonight in a spirit of terrible mourning and incredible loss," Rev. Jim Martin, a LAByrinth member and Jesuit priest, told the assembled crowd. "But we also come together to celebrate a remarkable life."

"Courage was his forte, always," playwright, actor, and LABryinth member Eric Bogosian said. "Phil set his bar on the highest rung, on a rung above the highest rung. He pushed himself relentlessly until finally his efforts virtually redefined the very endeavor we call acting. That's what he wanted. He wanted to rock the world."

Meanwhile Wednesday night, three of four suspects arrested in the investigation of Hoffman's death were arraigned on drug charges.

A wake is scheduled for Thursday night at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in Manhattan. A private funeral is scheduled for Friday at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church.

Hoffman was found dead from an apparent drug overdose in his West Village apartment on Sunday. Police said 50 small packets found in the apartment tested positive for heroin.
