America's only royal palace -- Iolani Palace in Honolulu, Hawaii -- was vandalized on the morning of Feb. 8, when a 21-year-old man and 30-year-old women allegedly tried to break in, smashing an original glass panel and kicking open a door.

The woman was overheard saying, “This is my house, this my house.

Iolani Palace was home to King Kalakaua and Queen Liliuokalani before Hawaii's monarchy was overthrown in 1893. It serves today as a national anomaly and treasure, attracting thousands of tourists every year.

A spokesman for the palace said he was "devastated" and that the damage, which is estimated at around $20,000, was "an irreparable loss of a treasure."

There is now a wooden board up over the door, which visitors say is a shame for such a historic attraction.

"We're come all this way from wherever in the world to see a structure like that and to see it vandalized, it makes it really, really sad!" Canadian Ratan Pandey told KITV news.

The two suspects were released pending further investigation.
