Natalie Portman Faces Protests By Orthodox Jews In Jerusalem Over Movie Filming 'A Tale Of Love And Darkness'

Posted: Updated:

Orthodox Jewish residents of the Nahlaot neighborhood in Jerusalem aren't happy with Natalie Portman, who is filming scenes for her directorial debut, a movie adaption of Amos Oz's A Tale of Love and Darkness, in their area, reports Haaretz.

Though the actress and director coordinated the shoot with the Jerusalem Municipality, officials failed to notify the residents, who proceeded to send an angry letter about the filming plans, according to Israel's Channel 10.

The residents are concerned that filming will take place near synagogues and yeshivot, and wrote that "the scenes being filmed should have been examined first to make sure they don’t offend anybody’s sensitivities."

The municipality responded by saying that all actors involved will dress modestly while they are in the neighborhood.
