How Volunteering In Nepal Made Me Realize I Could Be Happier

The Moment I Knew: 'I Didn't Realize How Happy I Could Be'

Project Exponential founder Michelle Welsch was living on New York City's Upper West Side, feeling like a "frumpy housewife," when she decided to spend two weeks in Nepal. What happened there would change her life forever, she told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani.

"Before I left for Nepal, nothing made sense. Nothing was fitting. There was a period of restlessness and just not feeling satisfied, and I didn't realize how happy I could be until I actually landed there and found exactly what I was looking for," she said.

Welsch originally planned to spend two weeks as a volunteer in Nepal, but her passion for the work lit up her life and drove her to do more than she expected.

"Two weeks turned into several months and now has sent me down a completely new path where I'm fundraising for scholarships and helping teachers find the salaries that they're looking for and even working on funding solar projects," Welsch said.

Arianna Huffington and Mika Brzezinski are taking The Third Metric on a three-city tour: NY, DC & LA. Tickets are on sale now at thirdmetric.com.
