Sage Kotsenburg On Shaun White's Loss: 'A Shock'

After winning the first gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics, Sage Kotsenburg went from an underdog to America's superstar. After capturing gold in the debut men's snowboard slopestyle event, Kotsenburg was among those watching as Shaun White went for a historic three-peat in the halfpipe. Count, Kotsenburg among those surprised when White failed to even medal.

"I think it's just a lot on his plate maybe," said Kotsenburg. White bailed out of the slopestyle event for which Kotsenburg won the gold and then finished fourth in the halfpipe.

While noting the amount of pressure White was under, the 20-year-old gold medalist said, "It definitely came as a shock."

Yet according to Kotsenburg, White has already said he's coming back for the 2018 Winter Games. With Kotsenburg now in the same ring, there's a lot to look forward to in 2018.
