Kihei, Hawaii Is The Most Expensive Destination This President's Day Weekend

And The Most Expensive Travel Destination This Weekend Is...

Has winter storm Pax canceled your traveling plans for the next three days? Consider yourself lucky if you're headed to Kihei, Hawaii, the country's most expensive travel destination for the upcoming Presidents' Day weekend.

In a CheapHotels.org survey that looked at the cost of hotel rooms from February 14 to February 17, the Aloha state took up five spots in the top ten list of U.S. cities with the highest room rates.

Kihei, a small town on the Hawaiian island of Maui, topped the list with rates of $416 per night. Runners up included the popular ski destination of Vail, Colorado ($402 per night) and the tropics of Florida's Key West ($399 per night).

Two more towns on the Valley Isle made the list with Wailea, located just south of Kihei, ranking as the fourth most expensive city (at $359 per night) and Kaanapali, on Maui's north shore, as the tenth ($289 per night). Island travelers, however, may not get their ideal getaway this weekend as Maui's forecast predicts rainy and overcast conditions over the next three days.

The survey compared daily rates for each destination's cheapest available double rooms and only considered lodgings with at least two star ratings and an average of positive customer evaluations.
