A man in China has been arrested after allegedly pushing his girlfriend into a manhole where she became trapped for almost three full days.
Recently released CCTV camera footage reveals the moment the man -- identified only as Guo -- allegedly set a trap for his then-girlfriend back in December.
According to Sky News, the suspect told police he had planned to kill the woman because he owed her a debt of 100,000 yuan (approximately $16,000).
The video appears to show Guo place a piece of cardboard over an open manhole. Moments later, he runs in the rain with his girlfriend. As an umbrella blocks the woman's view, the man can be seen leading her to the manhole.
The victim falls in, and the suspect is seen pushing her into the manhole. After she falls in, he places the cover over the manhole and flees the scene while smoking a cigarette.
The woman, who is also being called Guo, spent 60 hours trapped in the confined space, according to The Independent.
During that time, the woman told police she tried to fashion a ladder out of her clothing, according to The Daily Mail.
Days later, when her screams for help were finally heard, video captured her being pulled from the manhole, half-naked and appearing exhausted from her ordeal.
"I did not sleep at all the first night I fell in the manhole," she said. "I could see the darkness around me."
Authorities said the suspect had a gambling addiction.
