Rihanna Instagrams 'Principle 6' Beanie In Support Of LGBT Russians

Posted: Updated:

Rihanna took to Instagram over the weekend in order to make a statement of solidarity with members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community living in Russia.

The singer posted a picture of herself wearing a beanie from the "Principle 6" clothing campaign, the proceeds of which go to advocacy groups actively fighting Russia's anti-gay discrimination and legislation.

Rihanna also accompanied the picture with a link to a New York Times article describing the the "Principle 6" clothing campaign.

"Principle 6" references a portion of the Olympic Charter that explicitly outlines a ban on discrimination of any kind and recognizes that "the practice of sport is a human right." Other prominent individuals to reference Russia's anti-gay "propoganda" law as a violation of Principle 6 include lesbian Dutch snowboarder Cheryl Maas, who previously told reporters she would raise a six-finger salute on camera in solidarity with LGBT Russians.
