Jaimee Foxworth Of 'Family Matters' Fame Talks Sobriety, Son And Second Chances (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

Since making her name on the wholesome '90s sitcom "Family Matters," Jaimee Foxworth has experienced her share of uphill battles. After four seasons of playing Steve Urkel's neighbor, Judy Winslow, Foxworth was written out of the show and left without a job. At age 19, desperate and broke, she began doing porn to make ends meet. Even after leaving the adult film industry, Foxworth continued to struggle with drugs and alcohol.

In 2008, the former child star appeared on "Celebrity Rehab" and she says she began to wean herself off of drugs and alcohol. Foxworth's major turning point, however, came later that year when she learned was expecting a child with longtime boyfriend Michael Shaw.

"I started thinking to myself, 'When your son is 2 months old, how are you going to be able to smoke weed and occasionally drink and still be able to function day-to-day? And make bottles? And give him naptime and baths and all that?'" she tells "Oprah: Where Are They Now?"

Foxworth says the pregnancy prompted her to make a promise to God. "I was like, 'If you just give me the healthiest son, I will stop today,'" she says. "I stopped. And I haven't had a craving since."

In the video below, Jaimee Foxworth joins OWN executive producers Julie Simpson and Jill Van Lokeren on HuffPost Live and discusses why she turned to porn.

Foxworth and Shaw's son, Michael Douglas Shaw, Jr., was born May 29, 2009, completely healthy. Just four months later, however, Foxworth filed a restraining order against boyfriend Shaw, alleging physical and verbal abuse.

Despite their tumultuous past, Foxworth tells "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" that the two have since reconciled. "All women go through certain situations with their husband, boyfriend," Foxworth says. "Mine was just a little bit more elevated because it was in the media."

Now a full-time mom, Foxworth says Shaw provides financial support for their family. "I still get residuals [and] I budget very well, but also, my child's father, he's a big staple in it. He supports us," she explains.

Just as she believes she was given a second chance in life, Foxworth chose to do the same for Shaw. "If you love someone and if they make a promise to treat you right and... the child that you guys have together, give another chance," she says.

"Oprah: Where Are They Now?" airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
