NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is facing questions about apparent traffic violations by his security team.
The mayor deferred to the New York Police Department on Friday when asked about a video that showed his two-vehicle SUV caravan speeding, running stop signs and not signaling when changing lanes. The drivers are NYPD detectives.
Following a meeting with the mayor on Friday, Police Commissioner William Bratton told reporters he wasn't "overly concerned" about what he saw on the video.
The video aired on WCBS-TV on Thursday. That was just two days after de Blasio released a plan that aims to eliminate all traffic fatalities. The Democratic mayor called for the citywide speed limit to be reduced and for the installation of more red light and speed enforcement cameras.
