Courtney Act Releases 'To Russia With Love'

Posted: Updated:

With the premiere of the sixth season of "RuPaul's Drag Race" just around the corner, one of this year's more prominent contestants has released a music video that takes aim at Russia's climate of fear and violence for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

Courtney Act, who previously appeared on "Australian Idol," dropped "To Russia With Love" this week in an attempt to bring visibility to not only the country's anti-gay "propaganda" law, but all marginalized people throughout the nation.

“There are no greater rights than human rights but it is important to look at the bigger picture,” Courtney Act said in a statement to The Huffington Post. “Russia isn’t only oppressive toward gay people, it is hard on everyone, particularly women. Russia is a very different place than what we in the West are familiar with."

Act then added, "We cannot apply our own values and judgments to the country. We need to have greater compassion and understanding and recognize that our similarities are greater than our differences.”

Check out the video for "To Russia With Love" above and tune into "RuPaul's Drag Race" on Monday to catch Courtney Act's latest move.
