J.R. Smith went back to some old habits on Monday night against the Mavericks, except this time he moved from shoelaces to headbands. His victim? Vince Carter.
Smith was spotted tugging at Carter's headband early in the fourth quarter. All the 17-year veteran could do was smile. But after the game, which ended on Dirk Nowitzki's game-winning buzzer beater, Smith denied pulling Carter's headband.
"No, your eyes were playing tricks on you," Smith said, per Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com. "You're reaching for that one. I [already] got fined once for that s***."
Back in January in a game against Dallas, Smith untied Shawn Marion's shoe during a free throw. Smith tried the same prank again in New York's next game, but Detroit's Greg Monroe didn't let him. The shoelace stunts ended up costing him $50,000.
But that was under the David Stern era. Will new NBA commissioner Adam Silver fine Smith again?
