"The Americans" came back for a bloody season premiere that left our leads reeling. The biggest struggle that Elizabeth and Philip have faced as undercover KGB agents is how their double lives might affect their family. For as much as their marriage was one of convenience and obligation, their love for their children is very real.
They seemed to bond with a fellow KGB couple who had two kids of their own. But if we thought this might be an opportunity for them to bond with people who understand their crazy lives completely, we were in for a shocking surprise. Philip and Elizabeth agreed to help this couple with a drop, and things went horribly, horribly wrong.
Elizabeth and Philip walked into the other family's hotel room to find the couple -- and one of their children -- brutally killed. Hollywood LIfe's Shaunna Murphy called it "the most gruesome, tragic moment of violence we’ve seen yet." They couldn't even warn off the other child, who instead had to find the carnage for himself as Philip and Elizabeth hurried their own children off to safety.
