Someone Keeps Stealing Poor Blackhawks Goalie Corey Crawford's Gear

Posted: Updated:

Pro tip to all the NHL hockey players out there: Don't let your gear out of your sight.

Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford was recently the victim of a sticky-fingered individual (or a very mean prankster) not once, but twice last week.

Ahead of the Blackhawks outdoor Stadium Series game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field, the Stanley Cup-winning goalie took to Twitter to express his excitement for the custom helmet he planned to wear for the Saturday game:

...Except it never showed up:

"I don't know what to say," Crawford told NHL Network according to Yahoo Sports. "It just disappeared. It was supposed to be sent this week and they just mishandled it. It's gone. We're going to have to go to Plan B."

Sporting News reports the dark mask was specifically designed to help combat the glare from Soldier Field's stadium lights. Instead, Crawford was stuck wearing a white backup mask which clashed with the black jerseys worn by his teammates and the black leg pads he had made specially made for the game.

It's a good thing Crawford was so excited for his black Stadium Series pads, because he'll be stuck wearing them now that his regular pads have also gone missing.

An unbelievably Droopy Dog-sounding Crawford told reporters Monday that he had not found his mask, adding:

"You're not going to believe this, but my pads got stolen at Soldier Field. White pads, gloves...gone."

A pool of incredulous reporters laughed but Crawford said, "I was stunned too when I heard it," and later said, "I think the NHL should look at their goalie pad security."

Crawford hinted that Soldier Field surveillance cameras may have caught the thief, but told reporters, "I think they're joking. I think my pads are in the back and they're playing a joke on me."

Coach Joel Quenneville, perhaps elated by his team's 5-1 trouncing of the Penguins laughed like an evil villain when asked for his take on the crimes against Crawford.
