Man Has Been On Cheese Pizza Diet For 25 Years

Maryland Man Has World's Best (Or Worst) Diet

When Dan Janssen has dinner tonight, you can bet it will be cheese pizza.

He'll be eating the same for lunch and breakfast, too.

For the past 25 years, Janssen, 38, a woodworker in Ellicott, Md., has lived on a diet that is almost entirely made up of cheese pizza.

The only exceptions: A weekly bowl of Raisin Bran, that peach he ate four years ago and the time he went to Germany and gobbled pretzels for two weeks because the pizza was not good.

"It's not that I'll die if I eat something new," Janssen told Vice. "I can fake it, like if I go to a wedding or something. My reputation precedes me where I live. I'll get an invite, and it will say, 'We're having a party, but there's not gonna be any pizza there.' I'll eat whatever if it's a situation like that."

As a child, Janssen ate the typical American meat-and-potatoes diet, but became a vegetarian when he was 14 for ethical reasons.

It didn't take.

"I hate vegetables,'' he told Today.com "I tried for maybe a couple weeks, and then I realized the thing I really like is pizza, so I'm going to eat that."

Around the time that Janssen went all pizza, all the time, he was diagnosed with diabetes, which runs in his family.

Despite the occasional diabetic blood sugar blackout, Janssen said he's very healthy.

"Whenever I go to a new doctor.... my bloodwork comes back great and they say, 'You're doing great,'" he told the Baltimore Sun. "I'm active. I ride my bike 30, 40 miles at a time. I feel great.

"If I could say anything to the men of the world, it's you can do it. You can eat two 14-inch pizzas a day and be fine."

Change may be on the horizon.

Janssen's fiancee is gently nudging him to widen his culinary horizons and he is seeing a therapist about his extreme eating habits, according to the New York Daily News.

“I must say, even though I sound like a horribly unhealthy and fat person, I'm not. I'm thin. I have tons of energy, and I feel great every day, so there might be something to the exclusive pizza diet,” the paper reported him as saying.
