NEW YORK (AP) — Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City will stop challenging a law making it easier to bring racial profiling cases against police.

De Blasio announced Wednesday he was following through on a pledge to dismiss a suit brought by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

In January, de Blasio withdrew the city's appeal of a federal judge's ruling that police discriminate against minorities in using the stop and frisk tactic.

The law eases some legal standards for claims that stop and frisk or other techniques were used in a biased way. It was passed over Bloomberg's veto.

City police unions joined the legal fight on the city's side. The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association filed its own suit and says it will continue. The union calls the law misguided.
