Richard Engel Temporarily Detained In Crimea With His Crew

Richard Engel DETAINED

An NBC News team was temporarily detained by pro-Russian militia in Crimea Thursday, the network reported.

NBC News' Richard Engel said that the team had purposefully taken the train to avoid any checkpoints, but militia are now reportedly positioned at train stations as well. Engel tweeted that they were detained at "Dzhankoi" railway station before even getting off the train. He said militia were waiting for them right on the platform, and the crew was then detained for about an hour.

Engel's team was due to report on Sunday's referendum in Crimea, which will determine whether the region should rejoin Russia.
