In an extensive new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Angelina Jolie discussed her latest film, "Unbroken," her much-publicized preventive double mastectomy and those lasting "Fifty Shades of Grey" rumors.

EW asked Jolie, who was once the subject of whispers about possibly directing the upcoming adaptation of E L James' erotic novel, how close she came to leading the project. "I -- I was just ..." Jolie trailed off, reportedly laughing and blushing as she avoided the question.

Pressed for a further explanation, Jolie said, "I came very clear out of the gate: after 'In The Land of Blood and Honey,' if I ever directed again, it would have to be a certain kind of film."

Jolie directed the 2011 film "In the Land of Blood and Honey," earning mixed reviews from critics and bringing in a domestic gross of $303,877 from a limited release. She debuts "Unbroken," her second feature film project from the director's chair, this coming December.

Referencing the director who eventually signed on for "Fifty Shades," Jolie continued, "You know, I’m looking forward to seeing what Sam [Taylor-Johnson] does with 'Fifty Shades' and she’s amazing. I -- I think they’re just … it’s funny, I think with directing, you just think: I’m better at telling some stories than others but um, who knows?"

While a Jolie-led "Fifty Shades of Grey" will never see the light of day, fans won't have to wait too long for the adaptation. Starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, Taylor-Johnson's feature is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 13, 2015.
