Anita Baker may soon be giving the best she's got in court.

A bench warrant has been issued for the Grammy-winning singer for failing to appear at a creditor’s examination last year as part of a lawsuit, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Baker, 56, is accused of stiffing a painting and decorating company of more than $15,000 for work done in her home in Grosse Pointe, Mich., just outside of Detroit.

On Thursday, the singer tweeted what appears to be a response to learning about the warrant from a TV news report:

"We're not trying to give her any hard time or anything unnecessary. We just would like to collect the money for my client," attorney Daniel Gerow, who represents Ray Smith Painting and Decorating, told ClickOnDetroit.com. "He's owed the money, and that could end it all right then."

He told the Free Press that Baker was ordered to pay his client $15,351.41 in 2011 in a default judgement for carpentry, plastering and painting work.

Baker had a string of hits in the 1980s and 1990s and has won eight Grammy awards, including one for 1986's "Sweet Love" and two for 1988's "Giving You the Best That I Got."

Her most recently released recording is the 2012 single "Lately."

Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly referred to "Lately" as an album released in 2013.
