Jesse Tyler Ferguson, 'Modern Family' Star, On Gay Marriage And Conservative Criticism

'Modern Family' Star: Same-Sex Marriage Is 'A Benefit' For Kids

"Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson sounded off on same-sex marriage as well as conservative criticism of his show at length in an interview with HuffPost Live this week about his work with The Great American Milk Drive.

"I think children definitely benefit from parents who are married and together and who love one another," Ferguson, who tied the knot with husband Justin Mikita last year, said. "Whether that be traditional couples or same-sex couples...coming from a stable household is what really effects children."

Specifically, Ferguson was responding to the American Family Association's Bryan Fischer, who argued that "Modern Family" was "poison," because the hit ABC series was "designed to make you think that same-sex households are wonderful" and "the optimum nurturing environment for children," while depicting heterosexual marriage as "bondage, dreary," and "gloomy."

Ferguson called Fischer's claims "hilariously ridiculous," while noting, "I think we have different definitions of 'poison.'"

Paraphrasing drag queen Jinkx Monsoon, he then quipped with a laugh, "Water off a duck's back!"
