U.S. Soccer Player Approves Of New 'Bomb Pop' Uniforms Because ... Kate Upton

The newest U.S. soccer uniform has been mocked for all sorts of reasons. It has been criticized for not looking American enough. Some think the away kit looks more French, Dutch or Russian. Others think it looks way too much like a Bomb Pop to be taken seriously. Amid the backlash, Herculez Gomez came up with an unusual reason to back the new look: It apparently reminds him of Kate Upton.

With the U.S. men's national team debuting this piece of merchandise against Mexico in an exhibition match on Wednesday night, Gomez tweeted his support. The 31-year-old forward who made five appearances for the U.S. national team in 2013 offered a reason that was, somehow, left out of the Nike marketing points.

The gear worn by Clint Dempsey and the rest of the U.S. players in Arizona left a bit more to the imagination than Upton's bikini in the image shared by Gomez. But both may be capable of inspiring some patriotism.
