An off-duty Dallas officer who witnessed a stabbing Friday morning fatally shot the suspect one block away from police headquarters.
Sgt. Jackie Moore had just parked her car around 9:30 a.m. when she witnessed the suspect attacking a victim, WFAA reports. The off-duty officer, a 15-year veteran, said she ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. When he refused and moved toward her, she opened fire.
Employees at the Wells Wrecking facility where the incident took place said that they noticed a suspicious individual trespassing within the company's fenced-in property. They said that the suspect pulled out a knife when they asked him to leave, the Dallas Morning News reports.
The suspect wounded a male employee. Police are optimistic that the stabbing victim will recover and eventually provide a detailed account of the incident, according to NBC DFW.
Moore was not hurt.
