One of the many things "Friends" taught us is that any healthy relationship should have a list: the official record of the celebrities that each person is allowed to sleep with, if given the chance. We all have our Hollywood dream kisses, but what is it actually like to smooch a celebrity? We can probably get a pretty clear picture through A-listers' reflections on their big-screen kisses. From "Spider-Man" to "American Hustle" (with a little Oprah in between), here's a closer look at a handful of stars dissecting some of their most famous lip-locks.

  • Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair on kissing in "Cruel Intentions" (1999)
    Columbia Pictures
Gellar: "I kept thinking, I have had to kiss guys that I don't want to kiss. At least Selma is a friend and I know where she's been."

Blair: "Afterward, I was nervous that you would think I was a bad kisser. I said, 'You weren't nervous about the kiss itself?' She said, 'No. I was just afraid you'd think I suck." [Cosmopolitan, 1999]
  • Tobey Maguire on kissing Kirsten Dunst in "Spider-Man" (2002)
    Columbia Pictures
"Probably the hardest thing I've had to do as Spider-Man was kiss Kirsten Dunst. When we shot that scene where we kissed in the alleyway and I was hanging upside down, it was really late at night, it was raining, and the whole time I had rainwater running up my nose. Then, when Kirsten rolled back the wet mask, she cut off the air completely." [Parade, 2007]
  • Kate Winslet on kissing Leonardo DiCaprio in "Revolutionary Road" (2008)
    Paramount Vantage
"I was like, 'Is it just me who feels a bit weird about this? You know. My friend. My husband, [director Sam Mendes].' But it was just me. There's this amazing still that was taken on set of Leo and me kissing, and Sam is in the background. You can see this look of absolute intensity on his face and I knew all he was thinking about at that moment was the frame of the shot." [The U.K. Mirror, 2008]
  • Jake Gyllenhaal on kissing Heath Ledger in "Brokeback Mountain" (2005)
    Focus Features
"When we kissed it felt like we were exfoliating. It was definitely more aggressive. It was physically a much stronger thing." [Empire, 2006]
  • Forest Whitaker on kissing Oprah Winfrey in "Lee Daniels' The Butler" (2013)
    The Weinstein Company
"We were trying to build the chemistry more and more, so even when we were getting ready in the trailer and stuff, she might rub my back. ... She was great. She's great. It was great. I think the intimacy that we share together in the movie is really important. It makes the movie really special." ["Entertainment Tonight," 2013]
  • Zach Braff on kissing Natalie Portman in "Garden State" (2004)
    Fox Searchlight Pictures
"If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it." [Reddit AMA, 2013]
  • Mila Kunis on kissing Natalie Portman in "Black Swan" (2010)
    Fox Searchlight Pictures
"It's hard to have a sex scene, period. It doesn't matter if it's a friend, a male, a female. You're with 100-something crew members, lighting you, repositioning you. There's no comfort whatsoever." [E! News, 2010]
  • Rupert Grint on kissing Emma Watson in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2" (2011)
    Warner Bros.
"It was actually fine. It seemed like the most unnatural thing to do, to kiss this person I'd known since she was 9. It took a while to get into it and put our friendship aside. It's quite full-on, a proper snog. We're soaking wet as well -- they dumped gallons of water on us and then we just went for it. We laughed a lot and it took us a while to concentrate. We did it about four times." [Attitude Magazine, 2011]
  • Bradley Cooper on kissing Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook" (2012)
    The Weinstein Company
“After the second take, she said, ‘You’re a wet kisser.' You don’t want to hear that. It was not a compliment.” ["The Graham Norton Show," 2013]
  • James Franco on kissing Sean Penn in "Milk" (2008)
    Focus Features
"The first kiss of the movie was out on Haight Street, with, like, 200 people watching, outside. I'm sure in the end it will be a really cool shot, but it starts close and then it takes maybe a minute. That's a long time on film with everybody watching, and, like, a fake moustache getting in your mouth. It was long enough that you couldn't help but thinking, 'Oh, my God, I'm kissing Spicoli.'" [GQ, 2008]
  • Vivica A. Fox on kissing Larenz Tate in "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" (1998)
    Warner Bros.
"Morris Chestnut, Larenz Tate and Will Smith were the best -- and Boris Kodjoe -- actors I've ever kissed in my life. Larenz Tate has some luscious lips. For real. He was a great kisser." ["Sway's Universe," 2012]
  • Keira Knightley on kissing James McAvoy in "Atonement" (2007)
    Universal Pictures
"James is the best kisser ever." [People, 2007]
  • Amy Adams on kissing Jennifer Lawrence in "American Hustle" (2013)
    Columbia Pictures
"She killed it. It didn't feel sexy, it felt toxic. ... I did not kiss her back. There's no like participatory element to it at all there." ["Access Hollywood," 2013]
  • Robert Pattinson on kissing Reese Witherspoon in "Water for Elephants" (2011)
    20th Century Fox
"The love scene in ['Water for Elephants']: I was doing it when I had a really bad cold. My nose is running all over the place, and it was in one of the additional photography scenes, and Reese had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig." [MTV, 2011]
  • Michael Douglas on kissing Matt Damon in "Behind the Candelabra" (2013)
    HBO Films
"You know, it doesn’t matter, does it, if it’s a man or a woman. It’s a kiss. We had to show affection in some places, love, passion in other places. A kiss is just a kiss. I mean, we’d have our fun. You know, 'Matt, what flavor lip gloss would you like me to wear today?' When I see the movie, I’m so proud that a few minutes go by and I forget that it’s Matt and I, and halfway through I forget it’s two guys. The arguments sound the same as arguments a guy has with his wife." [Maclean's, 2013]
  • Hugh Jackman on kissing Nicole Kidman in "Australia" (2008)
    20th Century Fox
"And on the kissing thing, [director Baz Luhrmann] quite likes sunsets and kissing, don't you? So we ended up kissing quite a lot. The true answer to that is that it was not the toughest day at the office! However, it’s never particularly comfortable making out with someone in front of 70 people. That’s really not something that turns me on. I know it does for some, but in terms of the intimacy and what was important, Nic and I talked about it separately from Baz. We said, 'Okay, we need to really take this seriously. We need to really portray this romance and the passion and the heat between the two and even though we know each other…' That’s the biggest trap, really. For actors, sometimes you can know someone too well and all of the heat goes out of the room and you’re too familiar. I won’t give you any of the details of that conversation, but it was a really adult and open discussion. And thankfully, when I saw the movie for the first time, my wife was next to me and that very first kiss, which is quite a long, lingering, slow kiss – and just after it, Deb leaned over to me and said, 'That – was – great!' So if your wife can give you the thumbs up, you know you’re on the right track." ["Australia" press conference, 2008]
  • Amanda Seyfried on kissing Megan Fox in "Jennifer's Body" (2009)
    20th Century Fox
“We kissed really well together. We have similar kissing styles! If I watch the scene, it’s actually really sexy." [W magazine, 2014]
