Victoria Beckham To Serve As Ambassador For UNAIDS

Victoria Beckham is planning to become an ambassador for an AIDS charity.

The former Spice Girls singer will work with the United Nations as a goodwill ambassador for their UNAIDS campaign.She was inspired following a recent trip to South Africa, where she met with children stricken by the deadly disease.A friend of the star told The Sun: "She wants to give back by doing what she can."The Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer visited Cape Town in February as part of the Born Free initiative, which tackles the issue of HIV being transmitted from mothers to their children.More Victoria Beckham stories

UNAIDS aims to reach 15 million people living with HIV with antiretroviral treatment and reduce sexual transmission of HIV by 50 per cent by 2015.Victoria - who turns 40 next week - and her husband are dab hands when it comes to charitable ventures.

Last year they donated thousands of pounds worth of designer clothes to their local Red Cross charity shop in Chelsea to raise money for survivors of Typhoon Haiyan. It appears that their philanthropy has been passed down to their children, with their eldest son, Brooklyn, saying he did not want to receive Thanksgiving gifts and rather donating them to those who needed them more.A source previously said: ''Brooklyn asked one of the family bodyguards to take him to a Rite Aid store in Los Angeles so he could buy some first-aid kits to put in the charity parcels.''Posh Spice is the latest in a string of celebrities who have become ambassadors for UN programs.

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen and international football star Yaya Touré are UN Environmental Ambassadors while Celine Dion is a goodwill ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organisation.
