Arianna Huffington: Obama's Deportation Policies Are 'Inhumane'

Arianna Huffington isn't happy with President Barack Obama's deportation policies.

The HuffPost President and Editor-in-Chief went on Fusion Live on Thursday to promote her new book "Thrive," about redefining success so as to lead more complete lives. But Huffington also had a few things to say about Obama's deportation policies, which have caused many Latino groups to question the president's true intentions when it comes to immigration reform.

"I feel that when it comes to deportations it's been very inhumane," Huffington told host Mariana Atencio. "I feel this is very un-American and if that was done by a Republican we would've been much more up in arms."

The media mogul has voiced her discontent with the current administration's deportation policies before. Last June on ABC’s This Week, she told former White House Senior Advisor David Plouffe that “detention and deportation is a nightmare for families. It’s a bit like a gulag.” She said the record number of deportations was "a real tragedy," according to ThinkProgress.

Obama has faced a growing storm of criticism in recent months, as immigration activists and Hispanic politicians have ratcheted up the pressure on his administration to halt its record-setting pace of deportations. Obama promised to prioritize immigration reform since hitting the campaign trail for the 2008 presidential election, but House Republicans have opposed efforts to pass comprehensive reform. President Obama ordered a review of his administration's deportation policies last month.

This is not the first time during her current book tour that Huffington has discussed being in disagreement with Obama's politics. In March she sat down with Bill O'Reilly who questioned HuffPost's political bias.

"The Huffington Post does not reflexively defend anyone," she told O'Reilly. "We have a lot of splashes that criticize the president for what is happening on a lot of the issues we care a lot about."

The interview on Fusion Live wasn't all about immigration. The author discussed redefining success so it means more than just money and power and how her own personal experience with burning out led her to a massive lifestyle change.

"I realized that we have defined success just in terms of these two metrics, money and power," Huffington told Atencio. "We need to expand the definition to include our own well-being."

As for millennials, Arianna has some advice as well.

"What I want to stress is that all you need to do is take small, baby steps," she said, "We shouldn't think of this as overnight we're going to change our lives."
