The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Nirvana on Thursday night, and after a few controversial "Who will sing with the band at the ceremony?" articles, Lorde, Joan Jett, Kim Gordon and Annie Clark joined Pat Smear and original Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic for the performance.

Jett headed up "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Gordon sang "Aneurysm," Clark (of St. Vincent) had "Lithium" and Lorde finished the set with "All Apologies."

R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe introduced the band at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. "This is about community," he said. "Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard. Keep in mind the times, this was the late 1980s. The idea of America — that hopeful idea — had been dismantled.” The female vocals accompanying the iconic songs echoed the sentiment, and who better to showcase teen angst than an actual teen herself?

Even though Nirvana disbanded two years before Lorde was born, Novoselic once covered "Royals" on an accordion, so clearly the admiration is mutual.
