A Florida teacher accused of encouraging an attack on a seventh-grader has been fired.
In March 2013, a surveillance camera caught a group of six students beating Radravious Williams in a hallway at Northport K-8 school, according to WFLX.
St. Lucie County teacher Dru Dehart orchestrated the attack on Williams, directing some eighth-grade boys to "teach him a lesson" after the student threatened her, WPTV reports.
"Her remarks were, 'I got my eighth-grade boys on you and you're not that tough now,'" Williams' mother, Latasha Darrisaw, told the station last year.
Dehart, who was suspended without pay last fall, was officially fired at a school board meeting April 10. She did not attend the meeting and did not expect to return to the classroom, attorney Mark Wilensky said in a statement.
"[She] made a very poor decision that day," school district representative David Miklas said, according to WPTV. "She used students to carry out discipline."
Williams' family says that they plan to file a federal civil rights lawsuit.
“It’s been rough, it’s been real rough,” Darrisaw told WPEC. “And we as a family have been dealing with it.”
