Harry Reid: Standoff Between Nevada Ranch, Feds 'Not Over'

Reid: Nevada Ranch Standoff 'Not Over'

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) says the standoff between a Nevada rancher and the federal government is "not over," despite ranch protesters claiming victory.

Long-simmering tensions between rancher Cliven Bundy and government officials turned into an outright dispute when the Bureau of Land Management removed hundreds of Bundy's cattle from federal lands. BLM officials accused Bundy of allowing his herd to graze illegally, in addition to ignoring court orders and refusing to pay fines to the government.

Bundy was soon joined on his ranch by hundreds of protesters, drawing national media attention to the conflict. Officials eventually decided to release Bundy's cattle.

"We won the battle," Ammon Bundy, one of the rancher's sons, said.

Reid, however, says the ranchers shouldn't be so quick to declare victory.

"Well, it's not over," Reid told KRNV Monday. "We can't have an American people that violate the law and then just walk away from it. So it's not over."

Cliven Bundy was asked about Reid's remarks during a Monday appearance on Fox News' "Hannity."

"I don't have a response for Harry Reid, but I have a response for every county sheriff across the United States," Bundy said. "Disarm the federal bureaucrats."
