'The Only Way I Can Do This Research Project Is If I Become A Stripper'

"Kate," a senior at Oregon State University, works as a stripper. The way she got there was a little unusual.

She uses the name Kate to protect her identity, as she tries to keep this separate from her school life. With college costs rising, and coeds wanting to be independent from their parents, students are finding one way to stay afloat financially is to work in the sex industry.

Kate entered the industry because one of her classes required her to study a youth subculture -- she picked strippers.

"I went to a couple of strip clubs, and I was really awkward and shy and also really broke as a student so I didn't really end up talking to anybody," Kate said on HuffPost Live. "So I was like, 'Oh the only way I can do this research project is if I become a stripper.' And so that was the impetus behind my decision. I was like, 'I'm going to strip for science.'"

Kate is able to only work two or three days a week, but she makes enough to support herself and pay for her education.
