Apparently pretty darn big.

(Story continues below)

The image that accompanies the excerpt shows Aegon Targaryen riding to conquer Westeros on his fully grown dragon. The author confirmed to Entertainment Weekly the image is an accurate representation of how large dragons get in his Song of Ice and Fire series on which the hit HBO show "Game of Thrones" is based. There's no telling if the show's interpretation of the dragons will be exactly the same.

The excerpt comes from his upcoming history, The World of Ice and Fire: The Official History Of Westeros And The World Of Game Of Thrones. According to the introduction on Martin’s website, the book will cover the battles, rivalries and rebellions that led to the events in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. The excerpt is perfect for fans of Daenerys Targaryen, as it shows how her ancestors came to rule the Seven Kingdoms.

Frankly, we can’t wait to see what role these fully grown beasts will play in the show. Although, we can safely assume there will be fire. Lots and lots of fire.
