April 22 is Earth Day, which means it's time to get outside and enjoy the world around us.

A new project from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Nature Conservancy hopes to combine the beauty of nature and the country's landscape with Americans' selfie obsession. Throughout the month of April, the two are encouraging people to go outside and take a photo of themselves "in front of a bud, flower, tree or other blooming plant" and post it on Flickr or on social media sites using the #NatureSelfie hashtag.

"Our plan is to have this project continue in future years where participants can return to the same tree, flower or blooming plant a year later and take another photo of it," the EPA explains. "Changes in blooming patterns could be examined and may have a connection to climate change."

Join us in celebrating the occasion and add your photos to Flickr or tweet us @HuffPostGreen with #NatureSelfie.
