Claire Shipman Of 'Good Morning America' Shares Husband Jay Carney's Best Advice

Posted: Updated:

Claire Shipman's got a lot on her plate.

When she's not working as a correspondent to ABC's "Good Morning America," she's busy parenting two children alongside her husband -- and President Obama's press secretary -- Jay Carney.

In addition, she's co-authored a book with fellow TV journalist Katty Kay titled "The Confidence Code." In a HuffPost Live interview on Tuesday, Shipman shared a piece of sage advice she received from Carney that's helped reinforce "the confidence code" that's preached in the book.

"He has a kind of confidence that sometimes seems unusual to me in that there isn't a lot of ego," she told host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani. "So he will step back and look at me sometimes when I'm ruminating or trying to make a decision or fixating on an email from a boss and [thinking], 'What does it mean?' and [he'll] really try to say, 'It's fine. Step back. You have no reason to worry.' And I think that's where he gives me the best advice."

Shipman noted that she and Carney have "had an interesting balance of careers" throughout their marriage.

"For a long time, when I was on TV a lot, people would sometimes call him 'Mr. Claire Shipman,'" she said, referring to her husband. "And he's actually never been bothered by that."
