Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) explained Tuesday why the Affordable Care Act, unlike communism, will never “fall of its own weight” -- because it generates funding while people languish "on lists” until they die.
“And some of our friends say, ‘We don’t have to worry about Obamacare, it will fall of its own weight.’ No, it doesn’t,” Gohmert said in an interview with conservative news site The Blaze. He had been discussing the deaths of 40 U.S. military veterans who reportedly died while waiting for appointments with the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system.
“Socialism and communism fall of their own weight because, as Margaret Thatcher said, you run out of other people’s money," Gohmert added. "Because socialized medicine never falls of its own weight because you put people on lists and they die waiting to get the treatment and care. So you don’t go broke.”
The tea party conservative made similar remarks in March during an interview with conservative radio host Lars Larson. Gohmert claimed then that if Obamacare was allowed to hang on with Congress making "little fixes," Americans would "die earlier ... because you don’t get the treatment.”
The age-adjusted mortality rate from causes amenable to health care before age 75 is actually much higher in the U.S. than in countries with universal health care, including Australia and France.
