Kristin Chenoweth has been tapped to play Maleficent in Disney Channel's upcoming "Descendants," an original movie about classic villains and their teenage children.

The show, set in a "present day idyllic kingdom," will center on famed characters with offspring that inexplicably all have nickname versions of their parents' names: Maleficent, whose daughter is named Mal, Cruella De Vil (Carlos), the Evil Queen (Evvie) and Jafar (Jay).

The Hollywood Reporter notes that the show will include lots of angst-y parent-teen reaction, noting that we should expect Chenoweth to "butt horns with her onscreen daughter Mal," played by Dove Cameron of "Liv and Maddie."

Variety reports that "Descendents" will begin production in late May for a 2015 premiere. Until then, we will imagine it to be basically just "Degrassi," but with magic.
