Artistic Photo Series Reminds Us That The True Superheroes Among Us Don't Wear Capes

One photographer is honoring the real heroes in our lives -- the ones who don't need capes to be super.

Brandon Cawood, 30, is the photographer behind the "Not All Wear Capes" photo series.

The series depicts actual firefighters, police officers and first responders, among others, and aims to add a movie poster element of glory to the people who keep us safe every day in our communities.

"This series is a celebration of our communities' guardian and a memorial to the healers that put us back together when our bodies are broken," Cawood wrote on his website. "The women and men in this series are those who inspire our children to be noble and brave! They do what they do not for reward but because they want to make our community, our home and our country a better place. Though they don't wear capes, these are our HEROES!"

Cawood worked with the Creative Arts Guild in Dalton, Ga., to turn the project into a calendar in which the proceeds benefit their scholarship program that provides art classes for underprivileged children.

"I started thinking I wanted to do more with the series than just a tribute and a portfolio piece," Cawood told The Huffington Post in an email. "I wanted to use it to help a cause, or just use it for good, like what superheroes do."

Through sales of the calendar as well as donations, the project was able to raise around $6,000 for the scholarship program.

"I felt like it was a way I could kind of pay my respects to the people in my community that do these things day in and day out," Cawood says in the video above.
